What value does an electronic signature hold?
An electronic signature, or e-signature, has the same evidential value as a handwritten signature. It acts as written evidence of approval, just like a handwritten signature. In order to guarantee the value of the signature, the identity of the signatory and the integrity of the signed document, the signature must be validated by an eIDAS certification authority. Thanks to the European eIDAS regulation, which came into effect in July 2016, electronic signatures are now recognised and standardised throughout Europe.
